Inspirational Conversations: Gabrielle Lord

Gabrielle Lord is the Queen of Australian crime writing, and if you have never read one of her thrilling novels you really should rush out right now and grab one.

Australian Queen of Crime: Gabrielle Lord

Gabrielle evokes Sydney so wonderfully in her books, and they always feature strong women in desparate situations. Her novel Whipping Boy, the first of hers I ever read, was turned into a seminal Australian TV mini-series and has by now become a classic, and it perfectly brings to life the special paranoias and fears that gripped Sydney in the early 1990s.

Last year, Gabrielle was given the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Ned Kellys, the glittering awards night for the crime writing industry. This cemented her reputation as one of this country's pre-eminent crime writers, and I am proud to say that I have been a fan for a very long time.

In recent years, Gabrielle has been engaged in writing a series of children's thrillers called the Conspiracy 365 series, which were recently turned into a television series.

Late last year Gabrielle released her latest in the Gemma Lincoln PI series, Death By Beauty, and it is, of course, the usual rollicking good read that I have come to expect from a woman at the very top of her craft.

I have met Gabrielle several times over the years, and I am so excited to have her sitting across from me at the March Inspirational Conversation at Ultimo Library.

My advice to you? BOOK NOW (it's totally free), because this event is going to fill up fast as many people want to hear such a prolific and successful writer talk about how she remains creative and energised through even the most gruelling circumstances.
